- In any managed landscape there will be a wealth of both ecological as well as archaeological heritage and this is recognised by the Foundation Degree in Landscape, Heritage and Conservation. The environmental industry plays an important economic role, influencing the lives of everyone in the UK. This Foundation Degree ensures that people engaged in this sector are equipped with the right skills to carry out their jobs effectively. As such, the award is designed to meet target skills set by Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for the environmental and land-based sector, providing a qualification which can greatly enhance employment prospects in the heritage and conservation industry. The strength of the degree is that it provides a holistic approach, integrating natural environmental sciences with the historic human environment. At the same time it develops transferable skills, essential for working in the wider community. By using web-based teaching material, together with residential summer schools and weekend campus sessions, the degree is suitable for students who are unable to visit the University campus on a regular basis. For those who wish to take their study further, students can study a further level at the University and obtain a full honours Degree (BSc Natural & Human Environments). The course comprises a series of modules, most of which are inter-disciplinary, examining the natural landscape and the historic environment.
